The FA Grassroots Survey 2016

The FA has launched the 2016 Grassroots Football Survey, which will run from Monday 19 September until Friday 28 October.

In October 2015, more than 28,750 players, coaches, referees, staff and volunteers completed the inaugural online poll to assess public opinion around the grassroots game.

The results provided valuable feedback and revealed a number of positives, but also highlighted some areas for improvement.

Last year’s survey – the largest ever undertaken by The FA – saw 25 percent of respondents say they would play more if there were better facilities available to them, emphasising the fact that not everyone has access to adequate playing facilities.

The FA has committed to spending £260m on the grassroots game, with facilities being one of the key areas of focus.

The FA also learnt that only one in five coaches polled felt they were being supported in their development. Under the new grassroots coaching programme, there will be a network of county coaches tasked with improving and supporting coaching across grassroots football with club mentoring programmes.

This year’s survey will again aim to gather opinions from the players, coaches, referees, staff and volunteers that make up the 400,000-strong grassroots football workforce, to measure the progress The FA has made to date and to pinpoint areas that require focus going forward.

The 2016 Grassroots Football Survey can be completed here.

Pirelli FC Celebrates FA Girls’ Football Week

Girls and women across the country are being encouraged to play football as part of FA Girls’ Football Week which runs from 10-16 October.

The weeks are being delivered in partnership with the Independent Schools FA, English Schools FA, Association of Colleges Sport, British Universities and Colleges Sport, the Premier League and the English Football League.

On Sunday 16th October, we are asking all young girls who would like to get into football, or just be part of a fun activity with friends at Pirelli FC, in Carlisle, to enjoy a girls-only session for the local community. The event will be arranged and hosted by Pirelli FC.

Kelly Simmons, FA director of football participation and development, said: “After the success of our last week in April, it’s important that we continue to build on this in October. “The FA has committed to doubling female football participation by 2020 and events such as this are key to meeting these targets. “We’re encouraging as many further and higher educational institutions as possible, along with schools,

“We’re encouraging as many further and higher educational institutions as possible, along with schools, clubs and other organisations to put on sessions and give more women and girls the chance to play football.

“Hopefully these will prove popular and will continue to run throughout the academic year, giving people the opportunity to play regularly and enjoy their football, which we know is crucial to increasing participation.”

How to equip your players and teams with the creative skills to break down compact defences – CPD Webinar

On Tuesday 21 June at 6pm, FA Education will host a special webinar for L1-5 coaches focused on: How to equip your players and teams with the creative skills to break down compact defences.

http://eventspace.thefa.com/FALearning/participant/arrangement.aspx?id=169286

During the first round of games at the Euro 2016 Championships, one of the early trends that emerged was that of teams needing to find creative ways to break down compact defences.

Early examples have been France and Spain, who employed a finely balanced combination of collective patience and individual creativity to find their way past the defences of Romania and Czech Republic. While for Portugal, on the other hand, not being able to find creative solutions to slip their way past Iceland’s defensive lines ultimately proved the difference between one and all three points.

In this special grassroots webinar, County Coach Developers, Jody Caudwell and Darran Bowles, will explore this theme in further detail, examining why it is one of the key early trends of the Euros and provide practical guidance for equipping your players and teams with the skills to create opportunities to score against compact defences.

With content relating to each of the age – phases – 5-11, 12-16, 17-21 – they will showcase example practices that you can implement in your coaching sessions while also making the connection to the coaching fundamentals and philosophy of the England DNA.

IMG_1507We are absolutely thrilled to announce that we have been awarded the Charter Standard Club of the Year award 2016. The award is in recognition to the progression that the club has made over the last five years in establishing one new team every year and also our involvement in disability football too.

Ability CountsThe FA Community Awards presented by McDonald’s aim to recognise and reward people across the country that make a difference to grassroots football in their local community – the people who dedicate their time to developing tomorrow’s young talent and help ensure safety and best practice in tens of thousands of clubs up and down the country.

Andrew Boyce (club secretary) praised the work on all coaches at the club: “A massive thank you has to go to the volunteers at the club who run the teams, those who dedicate a lot of their own time to ensure the children are able to play their football.”

FA Charter Standard Club

The FA Charter Standard programme is a kitemark, which recognises and rewards high quality levels of provision in Club football.
