Promoting Under 11 Football

As the season is well underway, Cumberland FA would like to remind Clubs of their responsibility regarding publishing results for Under 7s to Under 11 age groups.

Following a number of changes to formats and regulations over the past few years, mainly due to The FA Youth Development Review and with new volunteers, players and spectators getting involved in grassroots football each season, we are aware of the constant need to communicate changes and support leagues and clubs in delivering these changes.

Cumberland FA would like to remind all those involved in the game that results for Under 7s, 8s, 9s, 10s and 11s must not be published – in any format.

Our three local Youth Leagues support this stance as their websites continue to not publish the results. However, with the increased use of social media, such as Facebook and Twitter among others, results can be published in a variety of different ways by individuals associated with the grassroots game.

Cumberland FA are urging Clubs to communicate this information to team managers and parents / carers as this is a shared responsibility, to remember that football is to be enjoyed and is not always about the result.

What does this mean?
There must be no publication of scores, results or tables on websites, social media or any other means referring to Under 7 to Under 11 football.

Reports or posts which highlight the efforts and performances of teams are permitted however detailing results, scores and scorers are not permitted.

This does not mean Cumberland FA are suggesting that Under 11 football should not be celebrated and promoted. We want to hear about the experiences of youngsters in grassroots football in Cumberland and help support and promote the fantastic efforts and work going on across the County. We also know coaches, parents and carers want to talk about football across social media – but scores and results can’t be!

Below are a couple of examples (names used are not real) highlighting some Do’s and Don’ts. These are not exhaustive and provide only a guide:

Yes – it’s ok to say
‘A fantastic performance from my team today – proud of all my players!’
‘So proud of Ben scoring in his match today’
‘A great effort by all my players in the game today’
‘Played Futsal today – some cracking goals and great efforts from the players’

No – it’s not ok to say
‘So proud of my son Craig today, scoring in their Under 8 win over City’
‘Won 2-1 at Futsal – well done boys’
‘Beat Utd today – get in!’
‘Great game today, our goal scorers against City were Ben, James, Paul and Jess.’

Cumberland FA understands the importance of providing a fun environment for children to learn and enjoy the game. These regulations have been reiterated to support the development of players.

Social Media is a fantastic tool to communicate and Cumberland FA are fully aware that the majority of people use this appropriately.

All comments on these networking sites may and should be considered public, and anything deemed improper which brings the game into disrepute could lead to disciplinary action. It is the responsibility of all football to reduce and eradicate threatening, abusive, indecent or insulting behaviour, and the interactive environment is no different.

Cumberland FA will be publishing more information on the use of Social Media shortly. In the meantime please refer to The FA best practice information by clicking HERE.

Concussion Guidelines Announced
The FA release new concussion guidelines, outlining a clear message!

If in doubt, sit them out!

Footballers who sustain a suspected concussion, either during training or in a game, should immediately be removed from the pitch and not allowed to return, until the appropriate treatment has been administered.

That is the message at the heart of new guidelines launched today by The FA for managing head injuries at all levels of the game.

Available as both a free-to-download digital document and online resource via The FA and County FA websites, the guidance is based on evidence and best practice from around the world, and includes key information on how a concussion should be managed from the time of injury through to a player’s safe return to football.

The advisory guidelines have been designed for those who manage head injuries in professional and grassroots football – from clubs and schools, to parents and doctors.

The guidelines were developed in consultation with The FA’s Expert Panel on Concussion and Head Injury, which was set-up in April 2015, and tasked with advising the organisation on issues surrounding concussion.

The guidelines have also been produced with support from some of the game’s other stakeholders including the LMA.

As well as producing the concussion guidelines, the expert panel have also been working on devising appropriate research into the long-term effects of head injury or repeated concussion episodes on the brain. The FA plan to take the appropriate research questions they have identified to FIFA in due course.

To download The FA’s Concussion Guidelines document in full, please click the attached document link below or alternatively, please visit http://www.thefa.com/my-football/coach/concussion to access the online resource.

Pirelli U10’s in cup action

Our U10’s played a very entertaining game last night at Harraby Campus Sport Complex which was the first time that 3G has been used in the league cup. Despite the weather, which was horrendous at times, our team played some excellent football, but sadly were knocked out in the first round.

The team have been making great progress over the season and narrowly were beaten by one goal. Though having been two goals down early on in the first half, we wowed the crowd with the one touch football which was a joy to see.

Player of the match: Ben, for excellent skills shown and a superb goal scored from a corner.

#GetYourKitOn

Today sees the launch of the #GetYourKitOn campaign. A campaign led by the sports sector and supported by the Sport and Recreation Alliance which has been created to highlight the value of grassroots sport to the nation, ahead of the Spending Review of 25 November.

Whilst we know that we live in tough financial times and it is widely expected that the Department of Culture, Media and Sport will, like many departments, receive cuts of up to 40% to their budget, we all know that cuts of this size would have a devastating impact upon the level of investment into grassroots sport. Yet recent polling, commissioned by the Alliance, shows that 79% of people feel the Government should do more to support grassroots sport, and 75% agree that grassroots sport should receive more funding from the Government. So this is why the Alliance, along with sports organisations across the country, is encouraging as many people as possible to #GetYourKitOn and tell George Osborne how much they value grassroots sport before the Spending Review.

As part of the campaign, supporters are being asked to visit www.GetYourKitOn.team and post a message directly to the Chancellor. Visitors to www.GetYourKitOn.team can also upload their image to a social wall of support via a dedicated Facebook page. Supporters can spread the word and share photos directly to the campaign website by sharing photos of them in their sports kit with the hashtag #GetYourKitOn.

Emma Boggis, Chief Executive of the Sport and Recreation Alliance, the umbrella body for sports organisations, says the campaign needs as many supporters as possible if it is to succeed. “We understand difficult decisions have to be made but cuts of this size would have serious repercussions for grassroots sport. So we are calling for everyone who plays or who has children who play grassroots sport to spend 60 seconds contacting the Chancellor to tell them how much they value our grassroots sport.”

“Cutting investment in sport and recreation will have serious consequences in the short term. More significant costs lie further down the line – with a serious impact stored up for health and education budgets as well as a hugely detrimental effect on our economic productivity. Government recognises the need to invest in our national physical infrastructure, but needs to take investment in our population’s health and wellbeing just as seriously. “

“The #GetYourKitOn campaign is a fantastic way to show the strength of feeling and passion that keeps grassroots sport functioning in the country, but we need you to act quickly. These decisions are already being made and unless we tell George Osborne that we are united in our support for our community clubs and sports, sport stands to lose out.” For more information visit www.GetYourKitOn.Team

U10’s wearing poppies with pride

Our U10’s will be proudly wearing their poppies for their game over the remembrance weekend to show our thanks to those who have given their lives for our safety.

The poppies are ironed onto the playing shirt and can be reused on other garments afterwards. For more information, or you would like to get your own poppies, take a look at the following website; www.poppies4kits.co.uk.

This year we will have the ‘standard’ red poppy, and after last years very successful ‘1914-2014 dated’ poppy, it has been agreed with The Royal British Legion that we should continue with this by making this years poppy 1915-2015, Both of these poppies will raise essential funds for the Legion, enabling them to uphold the memory of the fallen and support the future of the living.
