During the first round of games at the Euro 2016 Championships, one of the early trends that emerged was that of teams needing to find creative ways to break down compact defences.

Early examples have been France and Spain, who employed a finely balanced combination of collective patience and individual creativity to find their way past the defences of Romania and Czech Republic. While for Portugal, on the other hand, not being able to find creative solutions to slip their way past Iceland’s defensive lines ultimately proved the difference between one and all three points.

In this special grassroots webinar, County Coach Developers, Jody Caudwell and Darran Bowles, will explore this theme in further detail, examining why it is one of the key early trends of the Euros and provide practical guidance for equipping your players and teams with the skills to create opportunities to score against compact defences.

With content relating to each of the age – phases – 5-11, 12-16, 17-21 – they will showcase example practices that you can implement in your coaching sessions while also making the connection to the coaching fundamentals and philosophy of the England DNA.

FA Community Awards – Charter Standard Club of the Year 2016

IMG_1507We are absolutely thrilled to announce that we have been awarded the Charter Standard Club of the Year award 2016. The award is in recognition to the progression that the club has made over the last five years in establishing one new team every year and also our involvement in disability football too.

Ability CountsThe FA Community Awards presented by McDonald’s aim to recognise and reward people across the country that make a difference to grassroots football in their local community – the people who dedicate their time to developing tomorrow’s young talent and help ensure safety and best practice in tens of thousands of clubs up and down the country.

Andrew Boyce (club secretary) praised the work on all coaches at the club: “A massive thank you has to go to the volunteers at the club who run the teams, those who dedicate a lot of their own time to ensure the children are able to play their football.”

FA Charter Standard Club

The FA Charter Standard programme is a kitemark, which recognises and rewards high quality levels of provision in Club football.

Once awarded, FA Charter Standard clubs and leagues are given an annual health check to ensure the standards of provision are maintained.

  • Having a trained Welfare Officer.
  • CRB checks for all volunteers.
  • Emergency Aid-trained volunteers linked to each team.
  • Respect programme sign-up.
  • A Level One coach for each youth team.
  • Appropriate club administration in place.
  • A volunteer co-ordinator.

We will now attend the annual Cumberland FA dinner on Friday 24th June 2016 to receive our award.
